This bakery caught my attention since I begin working at one of the unit located at The Seletar Mall, Basement 1 beside Fernvale LRT station 2 years ago. Unlike other halal certified bakery, the creation of the breads and pastries were uniquely creative. Its PANDAN KAYA ROLL which is no longer in its sales item was the first product to satisfy my picky taste bud for its smoothly rich and mildly sweet pandan kaya custard rolled neatly with the pandan cake.
If you are familiar with the Mall, you would have guess the shop's name correctly! Yes, it is Swee Heng 1989 Classic.
After knowing its name and went to do some research. Initially I was confused with another bakery name: Swee Heng also halal certified, after identifying their bakeries location and the products they sell. I came to a conclusion that both Swee Heng 1989 Classic and Swee Heng are from the same company "Swee Heng Bakery" but provide different tiers of retail concept. The former caters to customers who prefers more choices and has higher buying power as they are mostly located in the shopping centres while the latter caters to customers in the neighbourhood with reasonable pricing.
You will notice that there would be some variation of items sold in these two retails concepts, some breads and pastries can still be can be found in both bakery shops as they are delivered from the main factory.
Qn: So, why am I posting information on Swee Heng Bakery and not just jump straight into the food review I am going to write?
Ans: The reason is, I'll need my readers to understand how I came across this bakery and what triggers me to continue to buy their product.
In my next post, I'll be sharing some thoughts and review on one of their food products. Stay tune!!
